Industrial Engineer. Professor of Nuclear Engineering since 1964 and then Professor of Hydrogeology (1986) in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain, where he is currently Professor Emeritus. He is member of the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences of Spain. He was granted a Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Tucuman (Argentina). He was awarded the Narcís Monturiol Award by the Generalitat de Catalunya. Former Director of the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain, he is also co-founder and former Director of the International Course on Groundwater Hydrology/Foundation International Centre for Groundwater Hydrology in Barcelona, Spain. He was the President of the International Association of Hydrogeologists. He is Honorary Professor at the University of Santa Fe (Argentina) and Visiting Professor at the Universities of Rio Cuarto and Catamarca (Argentina). He was part of the Body of Industrial Engineers in Public Works (1979), having been responsible for groundwater hydrology in the Water Authority of the Eastern Pyrenees basin. He has 50 years of professional experience in national and international research. His areas of interest are: groundwater hydrology / hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry and environmental isotopes, water resources, aquifer management. He edited or co-edited 25 books and is the author or coauthor of more than 600 articles and papers.
