Ingeniero Industrial. Se desempeñó profesor titular de Ingeniería Nuclear (desde 1964) y luego como Catedrático de Hidrología Subterránea (1986) en el Departamento de Ingeniería Civil y Ambiental, de la Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (UPC), Barcelona, España. Profesor Emérito de la Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales de España. Doctor Honoris Causa por la Universidad de Tucumán (Argentina). Premio Narcís Monturiol de la Generalitat de Catalunya a méritos en investigación. Antiguo Director del Instituto Geológico y Minero de España. Cofundador y antiguo director del Curso Internacional de Hidrología Subterránea / Fundación Centro Internacional de Hidrología Subterránea, Barcelona, España. Ex–presidente de la Asociación Internacional de Hidrogeólogos. Profesor honorario de la Universidad de Santa Fe (Argentina) y visitante de honor de las Universidades de Río Cuarto y Catamarca (Argentina). Funcionario excedente del Cuerpo de Ingenieros Industriales de Obras Públicas (1979), habiendo sido responsable de hidrología subterránea en la Comisaría de Aguas del Pirineo Oriental. Es Editor y coeditor de 25 libros y autor o coautor de más de 600 artículos y comunicaciones.

Industrial Engineer. Former Director of the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain, he is also co-founder and former Director of the International Course on Groundwater Hydrology/Foundation International Centre for Groundwater Hydrology in Barcelona, ​​Spain. He was the President of the International Association of Hydrogeologists. He is Honorary Professor at the University of Santa Fe (Argentina) and Visiting Professor at the Universities of Rio Cuarto and Catamarca (Argentina). He was part of the Body of Industrial Engineers in Public Works (1979), having been responsible for groundwater hydrology in the Water Authority of the Eastern Pyrenees basin. He has 50 years of professional experience in national and international research. His areas of interest are: groundwater hydrology / hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry and environmental isotopes, water resources, aquifer management. He edited or co-edited 25 books and is the author or coauthor of more than 600 articles and papers.
